Day 12 - Dalmeny to Maloneys Beach - 90 kms

Despite the late night we were up early and left Richard's around 8.00 am. It was very sunny and the road was a bit up and down so we had to work hard for the 1st few hours to Moruya where we stopped for coffee. Leaving town we turned right on to the coast road and enjoyed 20 kms of relatively flat road where we were able to sit around 26 kph. After that the hills returned and it got hotter so we were totally knackered by the time we got to Batemans Bay.

We bought rolls, ham, cheese and afalfa sprouts at Woolworths and had lunch by the water just over the bridge. I missed getting a photo, but it is not everyday that you see a pelican on a lamp post.

Both of us enjoyed a short nap in the shade before pushing on to Maloneys Beach on the edge of the Murramarang National Park where we camped for the night.

A very busy and pretty spot with lots of fisherman, swimmers and picnicers around. We just wanted them to nick of (sorry Nic, but why do they use your name when they want people to go???) so we could set up camp for the night.

Great having a covered picnic area to spread ourselves around in.

We enjoyed the company of a group of kangaroos as we ate BBQ chicken and potato salad for dinner. Joe did the right thing and made a visit to the local general store and managed to secure a 6 pack of Hahn Super Dry. He tells me this is a drink for elite athletes and it helps them recover from a hard workout. I am going to try it more and more.

A shower of rain caused us to set up our tents rapidly and settle down for an early night to the sound of waves crashing on the beach.
