Day 7 Cape Conran to Drummer's Rain Forest Walk - 70 kms

Headed off about 8:00 am down Cabbage Tree Road to the highway.  DSE (Dept. Sustainability and Environment) had been doing some burning off so we had an eerie experience of riding through smoke filled trees with the sun shining through.
Headed off about 8:00 am down Cabbage Tree Road to the highway.  DSE (Dept. Sustainability and Environment) had been doing some burning off so we had an eerie experience of riding through smoke filled trees with the sun shining through.

Hit some long hills after rejoining the Princes Hwy. On one big hill we pulled into a rest stop for break where a car with caravan had already pulled up. The occupants, Ian and Shirley offered us a cup of coffee so we settled down for a good chat. Ian is a retired butcher and he and Shirley live a nomadic life in the specially fitted out caravan including Jason Recliners in front of the TV. We very much enjoyed their hospitality, they they enjoyed meeting such intrepid, handsome and stupid people like us.

The worst part of the ride were the numerous log trucks that were travelling the same roads as us and scared the crap out of us as they went past.  they are big buggers that think they own the road.

Pushed on to Cann River for lunch. Day getting progressively hotter so we stopped at Cann river while we stocked up with water and planned where we would camp the night.

Rode on about 11km to Drummer's Rainforest Walk where spent the night.  A few others camping there as well and we got chatting to a generous (yet dopey) Bulldogs supporter who gave us some water and also two young Germans who were driving down from Sydney in a piece of tish Mitsubishi Magna that was 20 years old and had dodgy brakes.

Great listening to the noises of the birds and animals of the rainforest at night, but there are some strange sounding ones too.
