Day 6 Orbost to Cape Conran - 35 kms

Started the day doing some shopping as we will be camping in the bush for the next 3 days. We have to carry all our food and water. Other cyclists in town doing the East Gippsland Rail trail . They were all very interested in our ride.

Headed off around 9.30 am. The weather was perfect. Saw a sinner resting along the way. Clear blue sky and no wind.

Also thinking of you Phil. L. Knew you would be interested in all these hay bales. Fascinating stuff.

Reached Marlo (10 km) very quickly and had a quick look around. Very beautiful but not much happening. View from the pub balcony was good. Pushed on to Cape Conran, 25 km further on. Ate our salad rolls overlooking the beach.

In the afternoon went swimming in the surf twice. Other than that we read books, napped and did not much else.

Saw some large Monitor Lizards wandering through the campsite. One came wandering past as Joe was asleep under a tree. It wasn't bothered by the snoring. In the evening we barbequed some Lamb, mint and Rosemary sausages which we ate with salad.

And heres's one for you Dave.

Phones only work from one point up the Nature Trail so we went up there and made phone calls as the sun was setting.

After that we had a peaceful night apart from some creature trying to hump a plastic bottle near my tent. Fortunately it went away after I shone a torch in it's direction a few times.

  1. Hey, could you bring one of those hay bales home with you. You could take it in turns pushing it. Shouldn't be a problem for strapping young lads like you.
